Fishing
Who ever came up with the phrase; "That is why it is called fishing instead of catching" must not have been a very good fisherman. Now do not get offended or upset, I am just stating the obvious here. I have been on many of trips and never have used this saying regardless if I was catching fish or not.
I fished with a man this year that made some great statements about fishing, that is going to make me a better fisherman. Instead of being so focused on the efforts of landing fish, look at your surrounding and environment to figure out why you are not catching fish. Now you will have those days when the fish are not going to bite or mother nature has the upper hand. But most of the time we should catch a fish or two. A prime example are the Largemouth Bass fisherman out there. They always are looking to adapt to the environment or conditions to figure what the fish are doing.
I will pay much more attention to many factors in the day to help figure out the fishing patterns. Examples will be the barometric pressure going up or down, weather fronts moving in or out, water temperature (not just surface temp either), water clarity, wind, time of the year, activeness of the fish, where the bait may be, and so on.
Now some of you may already know about most of these facts, but do you look at everyone of these factors on your fishing days and keep a record of them, most of us do not. I highly recommend everyone be very aware of their surroundings and take notes. If you wanted to be a better student in school, what would you do? STUDY!!! Well study your environments around you and become a legend like this gentleman I fished with. It was not just an honor and a privilege, but an education for me.
