Fishing For Rainbow & Brown Trout
Well my friend Matt and I went fishing for Rainbow and Brown Trout on Lake Jocassee. Matt has been having problems with his boat and motor since last season and this was the first time the boat had been out for some time and it showed. Now don’t get mad at me Matt, but we all need to learn from some of our mistakes. Everyone knows that boats need maintenance and repairs now and then. Hell our Moonpie (22 ft Starcraft Center console) will be in the shop in the next few weeks or the captain may need to invest in paddles.
Once we got Matt’s boat on the water, he noticed that we did not have charged batteries or the electronics. Now our beautiful lake I have been telling you about is not so beautiful right now. The lake is in a chain of other lakes that help produce electricity and drinking water for surrounding cities. The lake is down about 20ft which makes for a tough day of trolling. Matt uses Cannon Digi-Troll IV Downriggers to get our baits to the right depth, but without electronics, how can you tell? You can’t!!! But the great captain Matt is and the amount of time he has been fishing for rainbow and brown trout on this lake, we did not loose one lure. Matt has been fishing Lake Jocassee since he was a gleam in his grandpa’s eye and knows the lake with the best of them. So fortunately we had no mistakes or no bottom bumping. We fished for about 4 hours with no bites and a lot of laughing. As serious as some of us take our fishing, Matt and I always find a way to laugh about it, especially when we forgot the electronics.
Stay tuned for more on fishing for more Rainbow and Brown Trout.
Here is a picture of my boy blue after he caught these nice trout that were released on the same day, the day before the biggest tournament of the year. We did not catch one thing the tournament day. The two 5lb brown trouts on the left and one 7lb brown on the right.
