Bass Fishing

How did you get started fishing is the question? Well most of us started bass fishing in either farm ponds or rivers in the southeastern park of the country. As I got older and wanted to expand my bass fishing, I bought a small aluminum bass boat and away we went. Fished many of the surrounding lakes in the upstate of South Carolina and had descent luck. That was 20 years ago and now the bass fishing sport has gone crazy. Most of the fishing shows we see on TV these days are toward the sport for fishing for largemouth bass. Tournament fishing has gone from fishing for a few thousand dollars to fishing for hundreds of thousands of dollars. Wow, who would of thought that.

The reason I am writing this about bass fishing, especially since my bass fishing days are over, is that South Carolina is going to hold 2 major professional tournaments next year. The first will be the Bassmaster Classic held on Lake Hartwell, South Carolina. Now I am no bass fisherman, but this is very exciting for the upstate and I will be on the lake to watch. Not just the money or media exposure, but the fact that one of our lakes was chosen for the Super Bowl of fishing, tell me that is not awesome.
The Second event held will be the Women’s Bassmaster Tour Championship on my home lake, Lake Keowee. I have been fishing and playing on this lake since I was 10years old and I can not wait for this event. Sit on my dock and watch them women catch all of the largemouth bass I have seen but could not catch. And since I have sunk about 100 trees over the years around my dock, I know they will be there. If you sink them, they will come!!!
I hope many are excited and looking forward to these events as I am. My suggestion would be to bring your kids out to watch or join all of us at the weigh in. B.A.S.S. puts on a great show and why not, it’s free admission. Stop watching it on TV and come on out to support one of our fisheries be the spotlight of fishing. Again, it is free admission to the event and weigh in, so no excuses. More information about both of these bass fishing events can be read at ESPN.com.

Take a kid fishing. Lee and his 2 year old daughter bass fishing on Lake Keowee. Watch out women of bass fishing, Molly is starting early.
